System Analyst: business analysis, requirements and IT solution design


Information about training in this course.

Course objective: to provide the practical skills required to work as a system/business analyst: eliciting and documenting requirements, modelling business processes (BPMN) and system behaviour (UML), writing user stories and specifications, reading data models and basic SQL, describing REST integrations, working in Jira/Confluence and applying AI tools in the analyst's daily work. A single portfolio project runs through the whole course — from a stakeholder interview to a finished specification.

Training takes place in the evenings in the centre of Tallinn (Tartu mnt. 18) and/or online. All educational materials are included in the course price. A laptop is provided for the duration of the training if needed. No programming experience is required.


Target group:

This course is for you if you:

  • are changing careers and want to enter IT through a role that does not require programming;
  • are a QA / testing specialist and want to grow into analysis — employers count QA experience as adjacent when hiring analysts;
  • work in IT support or system maintenance and want to move to the role that defines what the product should be;
  • are a domain expert (finance, logistics, e-government, retail) and want to combine domain knowledge with analysis skills — the most valued profile on the market;
  • are a project or product manager and need to specify work for development teams and manage requirements properly;

Requirements for students:

  • confident PC user; no programming experience required
  • English sufficient to follow technical training (approximately B1/B2)
  • It is desirable to have your own laptop (Windows / Mac, 8 GB RAM+); a laptop will be provided for the duration of the training if needed.

Learning outcome:

Those who complete this course:

  • describe REST integration requirements and verify them in Postman

Training methods:

The total course volume is 80 academic hours, of which 40 academic hours are classroom contact hours with the instructor (lectures, practical work, seminars) and 40 academic hours are independent work — the cross-course portfolio project.

Evaluation criteria for learning outcomes:

Learning outcomes are assessed based on independently completed practical work and the final portfolio project.

Evaluation methods:

Upon successful completion, practical and homework assignments receive a "pass" grade.

Course completion conditions:

To successfully complete the course and receive a certificate, it is necessary to achieve a "pass" grade on 75% of the homework assignments and defend the final project.
